Ivanka May was moved after the passing of her father to tell the story of survival from the genocide in Yugoslavia during the Nazi invasion in the mid 20th century. War Soup is Ivanka’s story from her mother’s perspective of being displaced from their home and her story of survival.

Born in war-torn Vienna in 1944 to Serbian and Croatian parents, Ivanka N. May (Mikasinović) entered the world during one of the darkest chapters in history. As a child, she endured the devastation of Nazi Germany—including surviving the infamous Dresden firebombing of 1945.

Denied a return to their homeland in Yugoslavia, her family sought refuge in Argentina, where Ivanka grew up and eventually journeyed to the United States. Though stripped of her home, possessions, and a sense of security, Ivanka discovered that hope can flourish even in the most barren soil.

War Soupis a memoir of God’s providence and love, through forgiveness and overcoming trauma—a veritable journey to healing. Through her story, Ivanka reminds us that even in the ashes of war, there is always a path to peace
